Meet the maker
Hi, I’m Jason, the jeweller behind The MetalWorks Jewellery.
My journey into jewellery began in my school holidays, working alongside a family friend in the trade. That early experience sparked a lifelong passion for the craft and eventually led me to train and work in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, where I developed my skills across many areas of the industry — from traditional handmade chains and fine jewellery to precious metal casting and bringing unique designs to life.
Away from the workbench, I have been immersed in rock and heavy metal culture since I was around 12 years old. Music has shaped much of my life; I even spent many years as a rock and metal DJ on the Birmingham club scene. The imagery, mythology, and darker aesthetics associated with the scene have always resonated with me, and eventually I realised I could bring together my two worlds: my professional jewellery-making skills and my lifelong connection to alternative culture.
The MetalWorks Jewellery was born from the desire to create jewellery that reflected the style I loved, but with the quality, substance, and attention to detail of traditional jewellery craftsmanship. I wanted to make quality jewellery accessible to people like us — metalheads, goths, and anyone drawn to the unusual — creating pieces with the feeling of age, history, and character, where the textures of the making process remain part of the design.
Craftsmanship
Each design follows its own path. Some pieces are hand-carved in wax using techniques that have been part of jewellery making for centuries. Others begin as digital 3D designs, allowing me to explore complex forms and intricate details. Regardless of how a piece begins, every design is carefully refined and hand-finished at the bench, preserving the the character of a truly handmade object.
I choose to work primarily in sterling silver because of its incredible beauty, versatility, and ability to capture the finest details. The silver is then carefully finished, often with a dark oxidised patina and hand-worked textures, creating a richness and depth that enhances the sculptural qualities of each design.

While our jewellery can be found online, nothing compares to seeing the weight, texture, and craftsmanship of each piece in person. We regularly attend alternative markets, maker events, and shows across the West Midlands, including Darkside Markets and Makers Central at the NEC.
